I love that Ivan is so social and friendly. We have so many friends that we enjoy playing with each day. Today I’m thankful for my normal social little boy!

Nicolas’ grandparents have birthdays very close together, so the family decided to throw a party since this year would be Grandpa’s 90th.  I decided that Ivan and I should road trip to Kansas City before to hang out with old friends.  We took off early Friday morning and much to my delight he enjoyed the car ride: listening and reading books much of the time.  We picked out a few special surprises from the dollar store so that helped as well!   I got to catch up with many friends from Kansas City past as well as other pasts. Ivan was such a trooper and we would leave one house of “new friends” and he would always ask, “Where are we going to next, Mommy?”

After a week of visits Nick flew into Kansas City and then the next morning we headed to Newton, KS to hang out with his family.  Newton was having a few festivals that we tried to enjoy but the rain kept us inside. Ivan didn’t mind as we utilized the hotel pool!  The birthday party was a success! Then on Sunday we spent the day with Nick’s dad and some other family.

The drive home with Nick was enjoyable and Ivan again did a great job in the car.  A most successful trip.

We are sad to see summer over, but we have enjoyed it as much as possible.

Highlights include: Boys camping trip to Sand Dunes, garden with Ivan and mom, Playdates with friends all over the city, saying goodbye to cousins, family fun, Father’s Day at Tiny Town, visiting family out of town, bicycle rides, camping with friends, traveling solar eclipse, and being silly and having fun.

We enjoyed a weekend away with friends in Breckenridge in October.  It was fun to see the colors again and as always the fun of Breckenridge.

For the past 3 years Kara has helped to organize a conference for people who are a part of or interested in simple church.  The conference is put on by the LK10 organization and has been attended by 50-60 people from all over the US and sometimes the world.  It is such a great time of sharing with others about simple forms of church. We practice “table churches” for the weekend where everyone is a part of a small church to share their hearts and listen to God together.  As we have attended these past 3 years we have enjoyed getting to know others who are like minded in this area. We had the conference this year at Bear Trap Conference center and had such a great time relaxing and enjoying the mountains.

Every year since I have known Nick we have returned to Kansas in April to volunteer at the Mennonite Central Committee relief sale. It is fun to reconnect with more distant family and family friends. We have in the past talked friends into coming with us as well.  This year some friends of ours who have come in the past were able to make it again.  It is always a fun time of eating great food and giving to a good cause.

While I was away in WA, helping my grandparents, Nick was busy working on finishing the back splash of our kitchen. After finishing most of the remodel we just could not make any decisions about back splash, so we didn’t. This fall, I brought home every possible tile out there for back splash, and we finally asked around, got some advise, picked and purchased our tile.  Nick used the time to finish. Thanks to a friend, Nick got for help with the cuts around the outlets.  I came home to a terrific surprise and together we finished grouting and sealing the tile.  We are pleased to be finished with remodeling for a while.
